Writing Junk, a Poem, and other Rambles

I know no wisdom
I see no truth
I run without looking
I stop without stumbling
There is no beginning
There is no end
There are men circling
There are men spinning
I have no confidence
I have no hope
I live without meaning
I die without leaving
They sing their singing
They shout their praise
They cry while dancing
They sin while praying
I cannot discern
I know no joy
They run while looking
They laugh while stumbling
I feel no future
I have no tears
They praise while dying
They laugh when crying

Answer - Me
Answer
They gave it all
Forsook sweet death
Swallowed gall to give them breath
All to answer
“Follow Me”
They knew the cost
Denied themselves
Bowed necks to receive the cross
All to answer
“Follow Me”
They stood alone
A thousand strong
Faith we hear in priceless song
All to answer
“Follow Me”
They smiled at fear
Fought unto blood
Made redemption courage flood
All to answer
“Follow Me”
Beauty and praise
Their battle cry
Steadfast love their alibi
All to answer
“Follow Me”
Lions yet sheep
They multiply
Lay down life, for others die
All to answer
“Follow Me”
They heard music
“Follow Me”
“Follow Me”

Wisdom - Me
Wisdom
There are spoken words
And ones written in my hand
The message seems so simple
Yet I can not understand
They're words we can say
And once they became a man
The power that’s beyond us
Yet I can not understand
They are words we’ve heard
And ones written across land
There words of love undying
Yet I can not understand
And in moments clear as sand
They’re far beyond my wisdom
Yet I can not understand
They have saved from death
And have inspired men to stand
They are deeper then knowledge
Yet I can not understand

Through the Eyes of My Heart - Me
This song is a musing...and how different your life would be if we would fully realize this and keep it in mind.
It also made me wonder how you would look at yourself if you did not believe in man's total depravity. It would be so easy to make so many excuses. And...if you don't believe that you are the problem, what is? If you follow the thinking through someone had to start the problem. Does that mean creation itself is bad?
Anyways...I have two versions of this song. This is the version that does not have the correct stresses in the second lines of the verses. The other one would go much better to music, but it doesn't say what I mean as clearly... So I posted the one which isn't as "correct".
Through the Eyes of My Heart
Cast around for an excuse
Hide behind someone’s monster
Only find blackness
Blackness through the eyes of my heart
There is no sword threatening
There is no gun compelling
Only find blackness
Blackness through the eyes of my heart
Hid behind someone’s monster
It can never hide my own
Only find blackness
Blackness through the eyes of my heart
There is no ground for defense
The monster is within
Only find blackness
Blackness through the eyes of my heart
There is a battle to fight
There is a banner to hold
Only quell blackness
Place the standard on my heart

Somewhere - Me
Here is a ramble on a few thoughts that have been bouncing around in my head and the song that came out of them.
I've been contemplating the idea of land for some time (as my journal and Aisha can attest).
What exactly is with land? I mean a particular plot of ground? For example...why is Scotland so amazing?
Is patriotism a loyalty to a particular group and set of ideas? To what we are used to and love? Or does it really have something to do with the actual ground?
How does history effect a place? Is it purely our knowledge of what happened there? Our knowledge of those who shed their blood for something they believed in?
It seems like we are often loyal to just dirt. Can that ever be a good thing?
Obviously if we didn't know what happened there we wouldn't get the feelings we do when we think about the history.
But what about the Covenentors for instance? Those places where men bled to death for what they believed in...they are just the same sort of dirt that's in your backyard?
If we aren't loyal to actual soil, why don't we just get up and leave when someone wants to push us out?
Why would people in history die in vicious wars just over getting some more land?
My conclusion....who knows? It's probably all in your head. But who knows?
I know I'm totally rambling, so here is the song...
I composed it on a very structured meter following an exercise in one of my books. It may sound a little choked, but it reads more like a song without music this way. ;-)
Enjoy!
Somewhere
Standing on the ground
Somewhere far away
Can you hear it calling?
What does it gravely say?
Drawing us all home
Somewhere we don’t know
Does history bring us there?
Can blood survive the foe?
Showing us a cause
Somewhere in their soul
Can that fight still echo?
Does soil become a scroll?
Listening to the past
Somewhere in the trees
Does the place remember?
Or just the mind that sees?

True Motion - Me
Just exercising my writing muscles before starting into prose yesterday... Needs some work, but I thought I'd post it.
True Motion
A life of slow motion
I couldn’t stop pondering
A life without meaning
I saw the great crowd of eyes
And long fingers that point
I saw how fruitless life dies
And my own barren tree
I knew the great commandment
A life of His service
I knew the given blood print
A life of true worship
I stood but did not do
I saw it without change
I knew but was not new
I was far too afraid
I should be down in prayer
The eyes do not matter
I should be focused elsewhere
Then love grows for those eyes
I read to become trusting
A life of true motion
I did to stop my rusting
I life with true meaning

What's in the Works and...."Love" by Me
So the reason there has been no lyrics is because I've been stuck on this one.... All my other "songs" have developed a rough draft in the first day or so.
Until....this one I've been working on. I think I've been trying to to cram way to much into a few verses and tackling to big of concepts. You know how when idea becomes dear to your heart it can never get good enough on paper? Well, that's where this idea is at. I care to much about it now to ever do it justice.
Anyways...I broke my brain on it for an hour or so today and then decided to loosen up and work on something else. If I just wrote something quick to get my fingers warmed up again, maybe it would go better.
The result is this song, Love.
I wrote it in the style of my Death song, because to me, it seems only Christ's love is the opposite of death. I'm not sure I tackled a manageable concept here. I had a lot of issues running through my head when I wrote it, but I'm hoping it turned out making some sort of sense.
I'm certainly more ready to go back to the challenging project now.
So anyways, here it is. Maybe someday you'll see the other project.
Love
I want to have it
I want to feel it
I want to horde it
I want to give it away
I just can’t see it
I just can’t touch it
I just can’t hold it
I just can’t give it away
They try to say it
They try to give it
They try to show it
I try to give it away
I can’t receive it
How can I give it?
Must I live it?
I receive to give away
I don’t deserve it
I did not earn it
I can’t accept it
I have none to give away
He freely gave it
He died to save it
I can’t repay it
Can I give His love away?

Wait to Hear
Wait to Hear
You hurry through a crowded street
You glimpse faces but see no souls
You never mind the hearts you meet
All you see is your distant goal
All wander in or walk strait by
All will shed a laugh and tear
All lay quiet under the sky
All have songs they must wait to hear
You meet someone that you can love
You meet someone who may love you
You may believe it’s from above
But all lives fall and split in two
All wander in or walk strait by
All will shed a laugh and tear
All lay quiet under the sky
All have songs they must wait to hear
A thousand touch and cross your life
A thousand faces shape your way
A thousand people compose strife
Some faces go some faces stay
All wander in or walk strait by
All will shed a laugh and tear
All lay quiet under the sky
All have songs they must wait to hear
You may speculate where they go
You may miss a face forever
Many lives you will never know
The spinning world is to clever
All wander in or walk strait by
All will shed a laugh and tear
All lay quiet under the sky
All have songs they must wait to hear

In the Shadow - Me
Thinking about justification....
In the Shadow
In the shadow of the monster
All I want is to be clean
Walking in the shadow of the monster
In the darkness of a murmur
All I want is to be clean
Walking in the darkness of a murmur
In the hollow of the quicksand
All I want is to be clean
Walking in the hollow of the quicksand
In the boundless folds of ocean
All I want is to be clean
Walking in the folds of boundless ocean
In the shadow of the brightness
All I want is to be clean
Walking in the shadow of the brightness
In the chaos of the stillness
All I want is to be clean
Walking in the chaos of the stillness
In the brightness of the judgment
All I’ll get is reflection
Walking in the road, the Son could wash me.
All I want is to be clean

Two More Songs - Me

So here are two of the songs I've been working on. I've been writing way more then I've been posting so you'll probably see a couple over the next week or so. Hope that isn't too disappointing. :-)
When it was Impossible
He’d never really known her well although he’d known her long
Maybe he’d thought of her more than once or maybe I am wrong
He’d swear it wasn’t jealousy that made him doubt her choice
Maybe it was the way he smiled or maybe his quiet voice
He didn’t think that man was the one but he might convert
He told the truth when he told himself he didn’t want her hurt
It grew on him so gradually until he thought it true
He was finally at ease to be the man she never knew
That man didn’t turn wicked like at first he might have thought
It bruised but didn’t break her heart like it would if she’d been caught
Although he might not have cared for her once upon a time
He realized now he’d seen her fall he was ready for the climb
She’d never really known him well although she’d known him long
Maybe she’d thought of him more than once or maybe I am wrong
He’d always been too worried of what he might say or do
It was when it was impossible they learned each other true
©Miss Pickwickian
I have several versions of this one and I haven't even tried to deal with correcting all the stresses yet. :-P The original version was all "his" and "hims", which sounds better then "that man" but makes it confusing when there are two guys involved.
I showed it to three different people and all three thought it meant entirely different things. All of them made sense when I went back and read through it. It was kind of cool that way, but I really wanted to get my point across too.
I tweaked a few lines to make it more clear. I think it sacrificed some of what I liked about it, but understandable is always good. :-)
So, if you still didn't understand, let me know. My basic idea was this dude knows this girl (no romantic sort of relationship at all) and then this other guy comes out of nowhere and gets friendly with the gal. The dude (that's the dude that grew up with her) is uneasy about it, but okay.
They are both finally relaxed enough to act normal around eachother. (No need to be nervous to somebody who you know is probably going to marry someone else.) The guy turns out to be a mild jerk and it doesn't work out with the gal. Through seeing the gal get hurt and mature the dude finds out he really does care (and could let himself care even more) about the gal.
I wanted the last line to be "It was when it was impossible they learned to see each other true", but I couldn't get it to line up correctly. We'll see if I can make that clearer in the finished version or not.
Hope any of that made sense.
Moving on....
Chose Love
Fell head first into love
Far too giddy to see my way
Lost myself in emotion
Never thought of love
You chose love for me
Love that could set free
Never stopped to reflect
Ran in my own fantasy world
Out of our own control
Never thought of love
You chose love for me
Love that could set free
Did not know it back then
Where you fall you must climb back up
You came to pull me out
Never thought of love
You chose love for me
Love that could set free
Wasn’t looking for you
Caught up in this life’s own drama
You just pulled me away
Never thought of love
You chose love for me
Love that could set free
©Miss Pickwickian
I worked a lot with the stresses on this song, but I still don't think they are all correct. It doesn't flow as nicely as a poem, but I think it could make an okay song.
I like to think of love as a choice, since a lot of love should be action which we choose to do (we choose our thoughts too, but you know). Anyways, I was thinking about the way we use "falling in love" and I was just thinking....well buck up and climb back out!
So yeah...
I know this song is mildly similar to the other, but that is why they are posted together. I also thought this one could be about our relationship with Christ. We "fall in love" with sin and he pulls us up. He chooses to love us. He chose to die for us.
I thought of the chorus this way too.
"Never thought of love
You chose love for me
Love that could set free"
We can never think of love, real love, without Christ. It is binding, but like serving Christ, it makes us truly free!
Hope you enjoyed them. Comment. :-)

I Limp - Me

I Limp
Life is never as it cries
It may whisper comfort here
Even as it still denies
I can’t stand the fight and blood
I have wrestled through it’s lies
Everywhere there’s broken walls
There is rubble standing high
There are eyes that watch the falls
They will mock my splintered bones
My own brother curses call
Broken heart with ceaseless prayers
My mind bleeds upon a rock
Seven years I clime these stairs
My own soul’s song hid itself
Seven years I conceal tears
All the darkest night we fight
A grim adversary strikes
But with dawn a brighter light
Wrestler stops and sings the words
“You have striven in the right”
Limping in a fair sunrise
Sunsets are all finished now
With the pain old sinner’s die
Dreams are gone but just begun
I can see a golden sky
© Miss Pickwickian
This song was originally intended to go a different and more clear direction, but it didn't. :-)
My first inspiration was a passing comment in a sermon on "Plowing with Purpose .
The comment was about Jacob and how God really brought on his trials (obviously since God is sovereign) and it was sort of come to culmination with Jacob's struggle.
God brings us difficult struggles and trials, but he does it for a purpose. And although we may limp away, we have been claimed by God.
I like the title "I Limp" for a variety of reasons. In the very rough, rough draft it was actually in the song, but the stresses weren't coming out right so I had to change it. I don't think it is that great of a song title, but I like the image that it gives.
God has brought us through trials. We are banged up, but we are stronger. We are Christ's.
I'll probably change it to something more suitable, but I'll enjoy it for now...
Anyways, I hope you enjoyed the lyrics. I didn't want the info first in this case, so I could see what you thought before I actually wrote any explanation.
I've been trying to work with stresses and such and I think I'm getting a little better with it... Hopefully!
Thanks for reading. I always enjoy hearing what you think.
Miss Pickwickian
Note: The brother cursing is strictly in reference to trials and specifically to Esau. My brothers do not curse me, in fact they are quite excellent. :-)

Death - Me
So, I having been thinking about Death recently (not in a morbid way). In a class we recently went through Isaiah 25. Here is an awesome few verses...
"He will swallow up death forever, and the Lord God will wipe away tears from all faces; The rebuke of His people He will take away from all the earth; For the Lord has spoken.
"And it will be said in that day: 'Behold, this is our God; We have waited for Him, and He will save us. This is the Lord; we have waited for Him; We will be glad and rejoice in His salvation.'
For on this mountain the hand of the Lord will rest."
Isaiah 25:8-10
I love verses about Christ's victory over death. Death dies. Isn't that ironic?
We also recently watched "Meet Joe Black", which generated a lot of discussion and thinking. I really liked the movie, but obviously Death is not a dashing and compassionate Brad Pitt. (I do not recommend this if you don't have ClearPlay :-).
Anyways...that all said...Here is the lyrics still in the rough....
Death
You can’t stop it
You can’t see it
You can’t hear it come
You can feel it
You can meet it
I hope you’re proud of what you’ve done
You can’t fight it
You can’t hide it
You can’t turn to run
You can hate it
You can love it
I hope you’re staring at the Son
He can stop it
He can see it
He can hear it come
He can fight it
He can hide it
He has the rule to make it run
It can’t fight it
It may hide it
It has bowed to one
It can’t stop it
It has bought it
It may not stand against the Son

American Dream - Me
This song is still in the reworks and there have been some rather varying opinions on it. If you have a moment to tell me what you think it means I would love it! It seems to be sending different messages to different people. :-) Suggestions are always welcome.
New American Dream
I wasn’t good enough for you
I’ll be good enough for someone more forgiving
I can change myself, but you are already gone
Maybe I’m just another American mom
I love you and I forgive you
Your boy has nothing to base a forgiveness on
All you ever taught your only child was to run
Maybe his just another American Son
You’ve burned love in a tired heart
I know you’ll regret it all when you’re far away
You’ve lost it all and you’ve helped the world spin what’s mad
Maybe your just another American dad
My heart will always be part yours
But it’s turned and it will never let you back in
Someday someone will actually be who they seem
Maybe that is just the new American dream
Done with love, but love this country
If her fathers could be husbands and fathers now
But there really might not be anything that’s wrong
Maybe it’s just another American song

Invisible Fairytale - Me
This song has been mulling about in my head for several weeks. During work awhile ago I was listening to my country Pandora station and a song came on about how life is not a fairy tale. Basically they don't exist, etc... I was inclined to agree, but then it was like - HOLD ON! There is one perfect story!
I tried to find the song again to get me in the mood, but I couldn't remember what it was called and all my searches failed. I'm not completely satisfied with how these lyrics turned out. It was a cooler idea then it came out on paper...
Invisible Fairytale
I can watch someone fall in love
And I can watch them turn to steel
I can feel a warm summer’s sun
And I can feel the winter’s chill
I can hear a quit fairy’s tale
But what I hear is never real
I want to hear a fairy tale that’s true
Why dream the imaginary?
Will it end in cheerful laughter?
Good will always conquer evil
Live happily ever after
True love will triumph over all
I can hear the cynic’s laughter
I want to hear a fairy tale that’s true
I can pick up that book to read
Or I can look in life and see
Everyone has their tragedy
Heartache will set no prisoner free
A day in life will hammer pain
No fairy tale written for me
I want to hear a fairy tale that’s true
I know those that are strong and good
They laugh or they know it’s a lie
There are endless troubles in life
They can see through a cloudy eye
I’ve not seen love last forever
But I’ve seen the good lose and die
I want to hear a fairy tale that’s true
Maybe my mind isn’t enough
Can’t see and hear and feel it all
Maybe I won’t see good conquer
The future’s built beyond the wall
Maybe it’s saved ever after
Until then we must jump to fall
I want to hear a fairy tale that’s true
I have heard a fairy tale that’s true

You are Strong - Me
I wrote this song a month or so ago and I don't think it flows very well. It needs some work, I guess...
Change bugs me in general and this song was created while I tried to think about some positive things about change. ;-) It could be applied to a variety of relationships. I was thinking either parents/child or romantic when I wrote it.
I respect people who have been hurt in relationships or have lost loved ones and are still willing to go out and love someone for all they are worth. Most relationships we get hurt with at some point. To go back out and love someone takes guts.
You are Strong
You are young and you have something good
For a moment it’s all as it should
Underneath there’s a raging stream
It’s just your life’s unchanging theme
I promise
How ever we may wonder
How ever loud the thunder
Where the path may lead you
Blue is always blue
And that’s the way
I love you
Every moment won’t last forever
I will change in life’s constant tremor
The winds corrode what stands alone
Our transformations can’t be known
I promise
How ever we may wonder
How ever loud the thunder
Where the path may lead you
Blue is always blue
And that’s the way
I love you
You grab hold to something that’s flying
You love but it all ends in crying
For awhile everything is perfect
But you know what you have to expect
I promise
How ever we may wonder
How ever loud the thunder
Where the path may lead you
Blue is always blue
And that’s the way
I love you
I may change or be taken away
But my love will never die or fray
You are strong to give your love
It will hurt until we are above
I promise
How ever we may wonder
How ever loud the thunder
Where the path may lead you
Blue is always blue
And that’s the way
I love you

Window - Me
These lyrics were inspired by a sermon on 1 John 2. I believe the finished version should be cut of a few verses, but it's too new to my heart to start hacking it to pieces. (I have to step back from my creations for a bit before I can start drastically changing them...)
I do admit, it's a little long. I hope you enjoy it anyways. ;-)
Window
There’s a light in the window
There’s a wedding band
How will she tell her children?
Will they understand?
Because Daddy’s gone AWOL
He doesn’t know where
Couldn’t stand it anymore
Maybe he’s in prayer
She knows he’ll see the light
Her husband is gone somewhere
She could see it come
He’s looking for salvation
A heart that turned numb
She’s staring out that window
Looking for her man
Starts to whisper to the pane
I know why you ran
I know you’ll see the light
You can’t see the life you own
You’ve forgotten love
You’ll never find redemption
No voice from above
Call it your love or duty
Can’t you come on home?
You won’t find forgiveness there
You weren’t made to roam
I know you’ll see the light
Someday you’ll find salvation
And you’ll find it here
You will choose to care again
Can’t you persevere?
You’ve got to love your brother
Also means your wife
Kids you didn’t tell goodbye
Can’t walk out of life
I know you’ll see the light
You can find your redemption
When you choose to love
Pick up that Book to obey
His voice from above
Mama stares out that window
Waiting through the years
But somewhere he’s still roaming
Stay till he appears
She knows he’ll see the light
