So...I've been having an interesting time listening to Josh Groban's new CD, Illuminations.
I know there's been some discussion on it since it is pretty different from his other CDs. The instrumentals are different and the songs are different.
I love the instrumentals, but to be honest, I'm not sure what he exactly meant with all the lyrics.
For instance, Please Follow Me puzzled me for the first dozen times or so...I think it's an amazing song and I know what I think it means, but still not confident on what he wanted it to mean.
Higher Window is my second favorite-
Over all, I like the CD better than his previous ones, but I wish there were more notes with the album. I think I know what they mean and I often like lyrics you have to think about (I'm a Bob Dyan fan if you hadn't noticed).
But still...it would be interesting to know what he meant when writing them.
What do think Please Follow Me is about? How about War at Home? Or this one, Higher Window?
His style has changed somewhat, but this is still a beautifully done song. My sister got Encore, a three CD Micheal Ball set, for Christmas...so, we've been listening to it a lot. :-) This is one of my favorites on the album.
I love his voice, but not always the arrangements and instrumentals. His Empty Chairs at Empty Tables is probably one of the most moving songs in the world (at least for me).
Perhaps, like me, you will prefer age and weight to this hair...but this is the only video I can find of Desperado.

I finally used my ITunes gift card and bought Colm Wilkinson's Broadway and Beyond the Concert Songs.
Unfortunately I'm still a noob (in a big way) with my MP3 player and can't figure out how to get new music on it...but I have been able to listen to the album on my computer.
It is an extremely interesting variety and one of the songs included is this one....
I'm afraid he doesn't realize all we require him to do is to hold still and sing... Too many awesome musicals performances I guess. :-)
Even if his animation and stage presence annoys you stay until the end of the video. It's the best. ;-)
If you think this is a weird song for Colm Wilkinson track down his Whiskey in the Jar. LOL. :-)

Kind of a strange video...but I like this song. It's written by Marv Ross and sung by his wife, Rindy Ross (love her voice).
We've been listening to Trail Band Christmas music a lot, but I couldn't find a good video. Lex Browning's vocals on their Christmas albums are a big part of Christmas for me. :-)
I've been fasting from Les Miserables for nearly four whole days! This has been made possible by Andrea Bocelli and Josh Groban and the fact that their Christmas CDs are now legal to play. And of course by great self-control and personal sacrifice. ;-)
Tonight we are going to watch the 10th Anniversary Dream Cast performance. This will be my fourth, but Suzy hasn't seen it at all yet...So I'm pretty excited!

Recently my brother informed me that the Kruger Brother's have two new albums. I am so excited! The Suite is beautiful, but I have it memorized. It's time for more! Now I just need to figure out how to get my hands on them. ;-)
I was excited to actually find an official video on youtube too. This is the cover song to their newest album.
I have really enjoyed some Declan Galbraith over the last few years... I love his early stuff. I'm hoping the current style of his singing is just a faze and that his totally mature voice will be a little less nasally. Not that I don't like it now, but it's certainly not my music of choice.
Another thing that is cool about this singer, for me at least, is the fact that his first public performance was impromptu at a Dickens festival when he was dressed up as a chimney sweep. Obviously his career has sky rocketed since then.
We'll see what happens to it, and his voice in the future.
I know this song isn't completely sound, but I think it is fitting for a boy trying to figure out the world. And it's the first song I heard by him and I love it. :-)

1963 In the early days. The sound isn't as good on this one, but it's interesting to see him near the beginning of his career.
1971 I really like his singing style in the 70s.
There's a live recording online from a performance of Blowin in the Wind from 2010, but the sound is awful. I don't think it's a legal video. Anyways, if you want to hear the progression of his style, you can check out that one too. :-)

My sister got Josh Groban's original album, Josh Groban, this year for her birthday. We've been listening to it a lot. Really. Like a lot. And that's cool. I like it. Josh Groban is great in his realm. He has a seriously amazing voice and some of his songs are over the top. Love 'em.
But I am not a Josh Groban fan. I think the hype is starting to wear off, but I know a lot of people got turned away from his music by the crazy Grobanite fans. I confess I've been very tempted, but that's a bad reason to ignore a talented musician.
I enjoy how Josh Groban mixes classical and almost opera type quality to some of the pop music he sings. He certainly fills a unique place.

Beka, a dear friend, compared the two singers very well (and she really likes both). Josh Groban is milk chocolate, Andrea Bocelli is dark...at least 72%. Josh Groban is a young man, Andrea Bocelli is da man.
Yeah, anyways... Both have excellent talent.

Talk about dramatic? Okay...You are allowed to be made sick by his fans. Gag... This is 2007 in the hype of the Groban craze. Since then I think he's learned a little more grace and humility during stage performance. ;-)
